racial profiling
racial profiling is an issue in america and the rest of the world. nobody should ever judge someone by the color of their skin. i dont think we should practice racial profilin, because when you do a whole group gets effected for the actions of a small group of people. after 9/11 at airports everyone that looks like they are from the middle east is checked a little more closely than others. there is no evidence that somebody that looks middle eastern is more likely to do something bad then any other kind of race, so why are they treated like they are.everybody should be treated the same.

You state your opinion of racial profiling but discussing articles you read for and against it would have provided evidence. Your example of screening of Middle Eastern people at airports post-9/11 is good, but here is a recent article about how racial profiling is severe among most minorities. What do you think could be done to stop racial profiling? What would make people treat each other equally, with respect? You started well but I don't know what sources you used. Racial profiling is a problem, but why has it become so extreme recently? Is it a result of 9/11 or something else? Terrorism is a threat but is profiling the solution?
ReplyDeleteI liked your point of a whole group getting affected by the actions of a small group. I would love to have seen you elaborate on that because it is a very valid point. It is unjust for us to jump to such a conclusion that all people of one race or religion fall under the same motives of one tiny percentage of that race or religion. Stereotyping one’s motives will do nothing but create tension and hurt.
ReplyDeletethanks for agreeing with me. i think society try's to categorize people into certain groups because it makes it easier for us to judge you they are and make assumptions about them. people want to fit as many people, with any little similarities together, as they can into a certain groups and then call them all the same, without looking deeper into seeing what makes them different.in the airports anyone that looks middle eastern gets checked out more closely, but they don't look at where they were born their religion or anything else that would tell you a lot more about a person then by what they look like. i think society does this as a whole with everything they do if its marketing or profiling.
DeleteI liked in how your first sentence you said that nobody should be judged by just the color of their skin. People say that just because they are from a certain race or color doesn't mean that they have done something wrong. It's true that airport security has gotten stricter since 9/11.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see your opinion, Shaggy:)I think that it's a great point that a group of people are affected by racial profiling, not just one. The only complaint I have is not seeing any of your sources or what articles you looked at. But overall, I got to see yoru opinion and that's all that really matters.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Shags...can you reply here with some of the things that you read and a little more explanation about how you arrived at these conclusions?
Deletei don't think racial profiling has become more extreme recently, actually i think it has gone down. if you look back minorities now are treated far better than they were in the past, before they didn't even have the same rights as whites did, so i think the country is improving. however, we can still improve a great deal maybe the solution is to check every fifth person in the airport lines no matter what they look like. that's just one way but really i don't know the solution to this problem.
